Message from Mr Fang Wenjian 

Welcome to the "The 3rd China-UK Economic and Trade Forum". The China Chamber of Commerce in the UK (CCCUK) has successfully hosted the “China-UK Economic and Trade Forum” for two consecutive years and the results of these have been both fruitful and encouraging. The Forum has become the key event in the CCCUK calendar, offering a good platform for high-level exchanges and creating opportunities for cooperation between leading enterprises from the two countries. 

To better promote China-UK economic and trade exchanges, the CCCUK will focus on examining the current state of the world economy, while looking to identify exciting new investment opportunities and finding ways of jointly responding to the challenges of our times, including climate change. We will examine working together on green cooperation, exploring new models of ecological and environmental cooperation, and broadening joint business initiatives in these vital areas. 

Therefore, in the interests of furthering China-UK business relations, the CCCUK has, over the past year, conducted an in-depth survey of Chinese enterprises based here. We have worked with an external consultancy to examine the needs and opinions of Chinese businesses and as a result we are pleased to be able to publish today our 2020 Report on ‘The Development of Chinese Enterprises in the UK’. This report provides a comprehensive analysis of the business performance and investment of Chinese companies in the UK in 2020, as well as producing a snapshot of their future hopes for the UK market. We note in this report a positive message from Chinese companies- one of confidence in the UK market, although naturally there are also some concerns over the current investment climate. Nevertheless, as evidenced by the survey, we believe that China-UK economic and trade cooperation has a bright future and there will be many good opportunities in the years ahead to promote investment and create jobs.

2020 has been an extraordinary year. Together we have had to face multiple challenges. The Pandemic has shaken us all, but there have also been other disruptions in international affairs and trading ties. Against this uncertain background, the CCCUK remains totally committed to strengthening China-UK exchanges and promoting strong economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Today, we must urge all our members and friends to continue to take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety in the face of a resurgent virus here in the UK. We see this as an important time for solidarity and mutual support and for finding elegant ways of overcoming difficulties in order to maintain vibrant and strong China-UK relations.

I am sure that I speak for everyone here to express the hope that China-UK economic and trade cooperation will enjoy a prosperous future, increasing the flow of investment and job creation in both directions!
